Deutz

The Deutz family name occurs frequently among the Frankfurt Jews. It derives from the town of Deutz, today a suburb of Cologne. Several families migrated from there to Frankfurt, and most adopted the name of their town of origin.
Some family members are recorded as trading in oil; Löb Deutz, soninlaw and initial partner of the future court factor Samuel Wolf Oppenheimer from Heidelberg, was a major supplier to the army.
