Schuh

The Schuh family was an old and important Frankfurt Jewish family. It was originally a branch of the even older Haas family which first took the name Gerotwohl and then called itself Schuh after its new house. The Schuhs were prominent businessmen, working as cloth merchants, money lenders and changers and in other forms of trade. They were among the richest families in the Judengasse. One member of the family, Amschel Schuh, fell into disrepute because of dubious business practices.
