The name Fuld derives from the town of Fulda, and occurs frequently among Frankfurt Jews. A family of this name existed before the creation of the Judengasse. In 1639 a further family moved from Fulda to Frankfurt, and subsequently formed many branches. Trade in groceries and brokerage raised them to reputation and wealth. The family continued long after to produce individuals who earned respect for their knowledge, piety or ability.
Families with the name Fuld were still migrating to Frankfurt in the 19th century, and they played an important rôle in the social and commercial life of Frankfurt up until the Nazi era.
