The founder of the Scheuer family was the wealthy Simon Wolff from Schwabach, a town in Franconia near Nuremberg, who acquired right of residence in Frankfurt in 1535. He built and occupied the house Goldene Scheuer, from which the family then took its name. Simon Wolff played an important role in Frankfurt's moneylending and moneychanging, Many of his descendents, some of whom took the name Beyfuss, were prominent businessmen, for example in the cloth trade.
