The name Schreiber as a family name comes from the occupation of scribe. Simon at the Goldener Adler was the first to bear this name around 1700, and he handed down both name and occupation to his successors. One of his descendants was the famous Pressburg rabbi Moses Schreiber, who lived at the beginning of the 19th century.
